1  The DPDM

1.1 History

The Diploma in Project Designing and Management has been in existence for a well over 15 years now. It was first initiated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital by Dr Imelda Bates form the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. It was then run in Ghana but affiliated to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. The school was the diploma awarding institution then.

Subsequently, it has gone through various stages where the the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology was involved. Currently, it is being run solely by the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons for residents in training.

1.2 Format

It is a one-year self-study course, where participants are taken through the basic steps in clinical research. Currently, there are 4 face-to-face workshops that are run per cohort. These are the Proposal Writing workshop, Data Management workshop, Data Analysis workshop and Report Writing workshop.
